Rendering of jaw with dental crown at Dental Prosthodontics of Rochester in Rochester, NYIf you are experiencing trouble with one or more of your front teeth but it has not yet reached the point of removal or replacement, than getting an interior crown or crowns might be the best way for you to correct the problem. It’s bad enough when we have cracked, decaying, or otherwise damaged teeth. But when it is one or more of the front teeth, that goes far beyond the functional aspect of poor dental function, it also affects everything from our self-esteem to whether or not we socialize in public settings.

In fact, many people are so embarrassed when they have noticeable dental issues that they develop unhealthy emotional conditions such as depression or severe anxiety. In some instances they become very isolated and cut off. There is no reason to go through any of this when the answer may be something as simple as having an anterior crown placed in your mouth. Your oral health practitioner here at Dental Prosthodontics of Rochester are always ready to help our current, as well as any new clients look and feel their best.

What Exactly Are They and How Do They Work?

Anterior crowns are caps which go over the entire visible portion of the tooth to provide protection, stability and strength, as well as better functionality for activities such as chewing and many other things. The materials used to make these appliances vary from metal to resin. However, metal isn’t very aesthetically pleasing and resin is weaker and less durable than any of the other options. In most of today’s dental practice, ceramic and porcelain are the two most popular choices.

Who Needs Anterior Crowns?

Anyone who has one or more teeth which have been damaged due to gum disease, decay, poor oral hygiene, any type of accident or anything else that may have caused an issue with their appearance or function. For someone who does not need to go through implant process, anterior crowns can let you keep your real teeth while sealing them off from further damage. Porcelain crowns and ceramic veneers provide a very natural and similar appearance to real teeth in the way light reflects off of them, in addition to their translucent properties.

What the Procedure Entails

The process is quite simple, especially compared to many other types of dental restorative procedures. Once the evaluation and consultation with our doctor is complete, you will then undergo the first part of the process as the affected tooth is shaved down and reshaped to be able to properly accommodate the new anterior crown. After the tooth is prepared, an impression will then be made to create a custom and perfectly fitting appliance just for you. Once it has arrived you will come in for a final fitting and color check. If everything looks good, the crown will be bonded in place. All in all, it is one of the fastest and most effective ways to address problems with one or a few individual teeth without having to have them extracted unnecessarily.

If you think that anterior crowns are a dental device for which you may be a good candidate, give the oral health expert here at Dental Prosthodontics of Rochester a call soon. Our office number is (585) 673-7702, you can also request an appointment online.
