What are partial dentures?

If you are missing one or more teeth and you still have much of your healthy teeth, you might want to consider partial dentures. A partial denture prosthesis usually consists of man-made teeth that are attached to a gum-colored base made of plastic. The artificial teeth and gums are connected by a metal framework that holds the denture in place. Partial Dentures Fitting Process

Step 1 – Initial Visit: During your first visit, Dr. Kuyunov will conduct a comprehensive examination of your oral health to determine if you would be a good candidate for a partial denture procedure. If your oral health needs improvement, he will recommend pre-treatment steps to bring you to optimal health. An alternative or additional treatment options may be offered, such as dental implants.

Step 2 – Impressions and Bite Record: If you are a good candidate for partial dentures, a series of custom impressions of your teeth will be made. These impressions are used to create molds of your teeth in the laboratory settings. A wax rim will be used to establish the correct bite. The bite and molds are used to create a partial denture in the wax stage with proper fit.

Step 3 – Try-In Appointment: When your test-run partial dentures come back from the lab, a try-in appointment with Dr. Kuyunov will be necessary so that he check to make sure that they fit comfortably and are the correct color. He will then make any necessary adjustments. The lab wil then create your actual partial denture.

Step 4 – Final Fitting: When your dentures are complete, you'll come back to our office so that Dr. Kuyunov cab recheck the fit of your partial denture before you take them home.

Who is a good candidate for partial dentures?

  • You still have most of your natural teeth and those teeth are healthy.

  • You do not qualify as a good candidate for dental implants for medical or other reasons.

  • When dental implants are not in your budget, partial dentures are a good alternative.

  • Patients who want to replace missing teeth quickly and avoid surgery involved with dental implants are good candidates for partial dentures.
